Top 5 MPT South APE Diagnosis

In partnership with Delos Santos Medical Center, MPT South held its first Annual Physical Exam (APE) at the MPT South Hub from July 12-14, 2021. Two hundred fifty-six MPT South employees had their APE to check their health status.

Top Five APE Diagnosis

5th Place: Urinary Tract Infection

Infection in any part of your urinary system which includes your kidney, bladders, ureters, and urethra.


  • Burning feeling when you pee
  • Frequent or intense urge when you pee, even though little comes out when you do
  • Cloud, darky, bloody or strange-smelling pee
  • Fever or Chills
  • Pain or pressure in your back or lower abdomen

Treatments or prevention:

  • Have yourself check of the physician, antibiotics are the usual treatment for UTI.
  • Be sure to take all your prescribed medicines, even after you start to feel better (finished the days that was allotted for you to drink)
  • Drink plenty of water to flush the bacteria in your body
  • Cranberry juice is often promoted to prevent or treat UTIs. Other fruit juices can be substituted for cranberry juice. You can also use pineapple juice, or citrus-based ones like orange or lemon.

4th Place: Dyslipidemia (Elevated Bad cholesterol or Low Good cholesterol)

Unhealthy levels of one or more kinds of lipid (fat) in your blood.

Symptoms and Causes:

  • High blood pressure
  • High Cholesterol doesn’t have obvious symptoms (It’s often discovered during a routine blood test)
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Obesity and Sedentary Lifestyle
  • Consumption of foods high in saturated fat and trans fat

Treatments or prevention:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Heart healthy diet and exercise regularly
  • Discuss with your doctor on how to guard against it

3rd Place: Eye Error Refraction

The shape of your eye does not bend light correctly, resulting in a blurred image.


  • Blurred vision
  • Difficulty reading or seeing up close

Treatments or prevention:

  • Corrective lenses, such as eyeglasses or contact lenses
  • Refractive surgery (Lasik)

2nd Place: Hypertension

Common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.

Symptoms and Causes:

  • Most people with high blood pressure have no signs or symptoms, even if blood pressure readings reach dangerously high levels.
  • A few people with high blood pressure may have headaches, shortness of breath or nosebleeds, but these signs and symptoms aren’t specific and usually don’t occur until high blood pressure has reached a severe or life-threatening stage
  • Overweight / Obesity
  • Not being physically active
  • Tobacco & drinking too much alcohol

Treatments or preventions:

  • Proper Medication
  • Diet & exercise
  • Reducing Salt intake
  • Stress reduction
  • Eating more fruit and vegetables & less fat
  • Managing body weight

1st Place: Obesity

Obesity is a complex disease involving an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity isn’t just a cosmetic concern. It is a medical problem that increases your risk of other diseases and health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain cancers.


  • Unhealthy Diet

  • Inactivity
  • Lack of Sleep
  • Stress

Treatment or preventions:

  • Exercise regularly
  • Healthy eating plan
  • Know and avoid the food traps that cause you to eat
  • Monitor your weight regularly
  • Be consistent
