The infrastructure of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project can now be seen along Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex). This is after the successful launching of pi-girders through an above-ground launcher near Paranaque bridge along Cavitex occurred last August 6 to August 10, 2021.
In a press release, Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) said that the railway company utilizes a special engineering method that allows faster execution and minimal effect on the ground level. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) called this new method “full span girder launching” in which girders can be installed without being transported via public roads.
Aside from the new methodology and technology, the successful launch of girders was made possible by the close coordination and supervision between LRMC’s Cavite Extension Management Team (CEMT) and Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) team.
During the girder launching on top of the expressway, motorists were diverted to counterflow northbound or southbound to guarantee safety. Traffic marshals were also present on the scene to ensure traffic flow.
LRMC also continued the installation of pi-girders along Pacific Avenue last August 17 to August 19, 2021.
The company highlighted that Phase 1 of the 11.7-kilometer LRT-1 Cavite Extension is now 60% complete and construction remains to be in full swing.
Hopefully, according to DOTr, we can see LRT-1’s train cars crossing above Cavitex before the end of 2021. Are you excited mga Ka-MPT South?
