Grandparents day is celebrated in the Philippines every 2nd Sunday of September. The celebration has started in 1987 with three distinct purposes: To honor grandparents; To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children; To help children become aware of the strength, information, and guidance that older people can offer.

How was Grandparents day celebrated during this pandemic? Whether in person or connecting over video chat, quality time matters most to show how we cherish and how we create new memories for our beloved grandparents. The celebration doesn’t have to be very expensive. Here are a few ideas to get connected with our grandparents.

Virtual Visit
Level up a typical video chat with a virtual activity to celebrate this Grandparents Day. Ask your grandparents to share their love stories and you will be surprised how they enjoyed having someone who listens to their stories.
Special Delivery
Take a family ride and personally deliver a handwritten card to make them smile on this special day. We may opt to have it delivered through courier. It’s the thought that counts!
Together Time
Invite our grandparents for outdoor/indoor games for them to teach their grandchildren their favorite hobbies or skills. It will be a great bonding moment!
Meals and Memories
How about the cooking tutorial? Grandparents would love to share their favorite recipes. Expect plenty of laughter and smiles while preparing the food which the whole family will enjoy later. Reminisce on stories that grandparents went on when they were at their grandchildren’s age. Grandchildren will surely love to hear about all the fun adventures they went through!

Grandparents are a family’s greatest treasure, the founders of a loving legacy, the greatest storytellers, the keepers of traditions that linger on in cherished memory. Grandparents are the family’s strong foundation. Their very special love sets them apart. Through happiness and sorrow, through their special love and caring, grandparents keep a family close at heart.”
