“This is a great way of encouraging each and every MPTC employees to interact with each other, take their work break, and to have that core balance for our wellbeing.” words from Mr. Rogelio “Babes” L. Singson, President and CEO of MPTC during his message in the recently concluded MPTC ICARE FOR WELLNESS Sportsfest 2023 held last October 7 and October 14 at MPT South Hub – HIVE (Gym) in Imus, Cavite.
On its 2nd-year and true to its annual theme of teamwork, sportsmanship, and camaraderie, almost 350 plus of our employee athletes from four (4) well-represented teams battled out to victory on major sports event Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball Executives, Badminton Executives, and E-Sports “Mobile Legends”. We have also added new team sports this year as “Fun Games” where players enjoyed Lato Lato, Sack race, Tug of war, and Patintero.
This year, we went on a 2-Saturday schedule that avoids hampering any operations of our business and had a tough, competitive, and thrilling pre-league/ eliminations last October 7. Day 1 highlighted emerging competition amongst all the teams. It’s everybody’s game – we saw the great potential and strengths of each team during the ball games, making NLEX compete in the finals with Basketball and both categories of Volleyball. MPT Mobility also won over its competitors and qualifying to the finals with their Basketball and Men’s Volleyball team. NLEX and MPT South Badminton Doubles Non-Executives gave out their smashing performance making them the finalists and a great peat for MPTC/ MPTDI team Badminton Executives led by Mr. Francis Rojas, Diesa Magbanua, Ric Saladas Jr., and Tin Mateo versus MPT South’s President and General Manager, Mr. Raul Ignacio together with Bing Rumawak, Art Ong, and Jinkee Dalisay. Day 1 ended with the Basketball Women’s category where MPT Mobility got the championship for 2nd year in a row.
All roads lead to the finals. The most anticipated day happened last October 14 where competing teams, players who joined the fun games event, and our four lovely muses who entertained us during the Miss ICARE FOR WELLNESS competition.
Andrea Galang of NLEX Finance bagged this year’s crown.
The Day 2 of the event started with a colorful parade of teams, and a message from this year’s host, MPT South thru its President and General Manager, Mr. Raul Ignacio. RLI mentioned in his short speech the power of teamwork recalling the recent Gilas Pilipinas and FIBA games – “Knowing your capacity, respecting each member of the team, and familiarization will help us achieve our goals.” After RLI’s message, the fun games commenced where employee players reminisced patintero, tug of war, and lato lato. Ultimately, everyone enjoyed seeing their colleagues during the sack race.
Intensity begins with the Badminton Doubles final showdown between NLEX and MPT South where NLEX got the gold medal. It was a close fight between MPT South and MPTC/ MPTDI Badminton Executives where cheering crowd roars at the HIVE in support for RLI and the badminton executive players of MPT South. After 5 sets, MPTC/ MPTDI won their first and only gold medal for this sportsfest!
Next was the final games for Men’s Volleyball where exceptional throws coming from MPT Mobility over NLEX finishing the sets making a back-to-back gold finish for MPT Mobility on this event. Up next was a fierce battle between NLEX and MPT South for Women’s Volleyball – “It feels like watching FIBA or UAAP tourney” said one of our employee audiences. The pass, set, block, attack, and bump made it more exciting during the finals. MPT South finished the sets and got their gold medal!
Ruel Asia of MPT Mobility One Hub, and Jhan Pauline Fortuno of MPT South were the Most Valuable Players of the Volleyball events.
Fans on-site and online watched their leaders during the Basketball 3×3 executives. NLEX and MPT Mobility made it to the finals where NLEX got the gold and Jeff Basa from NLEX TDE was awarded Most Valuable Player during the games.
Finally, after long hours of games the Basketball championship happened with NLEX facing off against MPT Mobility. NLEX won the game and made Earnest Reyes the Most Valuable Player during the games.
NLEX team got the over-all championship, followed by MPT Mobility as 1st runner-up, MPT South, 2nd runner-up, and MPTC/ MPTDI team placing 3rd runner-up.
This year’s sportsfest garnered an average of 5,500 viewership online. Employee fans cheered their colleagues on our official FB loops. Support was also given onsite from employee cheerers who watched the games with their family and friends at MPT South Hub HIVE.
We thank everyone who made this year’s sportsfest an experience to remember. Truly, teamwork, sportsmanship and camaraderie were manifested.
We hope to make the next coming years a successful one and continuously learn from the feedback and experiences and make sure to always take care of our people while having fun during the games.
